Join a team of women "runners" who are training together for various races in the area. I write "runners" because that term changes for most of us weekly, if not daily. Sometimes we run, sometimes we jog, sometimes it's all we can do to go for a stroll. But, at all times we are trying to achieve change. Change in the form of our bodies, our health, our endurance, our speed, and on occasion for our community.
Soooo....Are you wondering:
Who makes up the team?
Any woman (18+) in the area that has thought about running, is a runner, was a runner, or even fitness walkers, who would like to train with other women in a safe & supportive environment.
Do I have to be a CRAVE client?
Nope!
When and where are the training times?
Mondays & Wednesdays at 7:30AM, Tuesdays & Thursdays at 7PM at Carrier Park, & one non-race-day Saturday each month at 8AM at Carrier Park on Amboy Rd. in West Asheville. Look for us in the parking lot near the pavilion. TC denotes a Team race on the Upcoming Local Events page. The other Saturdays will be spent on long runs varying in length from 3-20 miles (progressively) in different areas around WNC. Once you join the team you will be informed of the location, mileage & meeting time.
What can I expect? What's changing?
Information on our topics will be sent via email each weekend so we can discuss when we meet in person or online. You can expect information on topics such as "what to wear (or not)", "safety tips", "running nutrition", "proper stretching" & any other topic related to women and running. Weekdays you should expect a 30min run. Saturdays are focused on the Long Run.
I really don't run, yet. Can I still join?
Absolutely! The training plan we'll follow is adaptable to all levels, even walkers.
I run on my own; what's the advantage here?
If you happen to be one of those gals we see out running on Friday night or as the sun rises in the rain then good for you! We all admire that kind of discipline and devotion, though most of us need a little help and support some of the time. Running, training, talking, learning, stretching, and racing with others has many benefits among them are accountability (if you run solo then there's no one to know you walked the last 20 min or skipped your stretches), support (somehow my feet go faster when they hear my name being shouted), learning (or re-learning) training techniques (who really remembers what fartlek means?), sharing (your tips & experiences while letting others share their triumphs & mistakes so you don't have to make them too), safety (you know what they say about numbers), and lastly community (joining a group of fitness minded strong women is never a bad thing). Oh, did I mention that you get a T-shirt for each race?
Is there a deadline or number cap I need to worry about?
Nope on both accounts. Our training schedule will get us through the whole year. As long as you show up you can join!

How much is the once a year fee?
$30 for non-clients
$28 for GOTR women
$25 for the FDNSC community
$20 for clients
This is a once per year fee that includes one team-shirt, printing fees & incidental items (like gels, Band-Aids & tissues). The fee is collected when you join and again each August.
